Learn about Classful Routing
An IP Class is used to categorize and classify an IP address based on the IP address’ first octet’s value. There are 5 IP Classes (A, B, C, D, and E) and each IP Class has a specific range of IP addresses that determine the number of devices and networks you can have in your network. Class A, B and C are primarily used in general networks, however, Class D and E are used for multicast and experimental purposes.
Classful network addressing is an internet standard set by IANA.- Class A IP Addresses have a range of 1.0.0.0 to 127.255.255.255- Class B IP Addresses have a range of 128.0.0.0 to 191.255.255.255- Class C IP Addresses have a range of 192.0.0.0 to 223.255.255.255- Class D IP Addresses have a range of 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255- Class E IP Addresses have a range of 240.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
Since 140.150.22.33 falls under the 128.0.0.0 to 191.255.0.0 range, it is a Class B IP address.Since 80.225.208.90 falls under the 1.0.0.0 to 127.0.0.0 range, it is a Class A IP Address.Since 192.168.1.1 falls under the 192.0.0.0 to 223.255.255.0 range, it is a Class C IP Address.
